On another big news of the club: the ARC Mini’s have finished 3rd 
on their pool.
On Saturday the 16th March, when the finals of the 6 nations was taking place, the ARC Minis played the last game against Eemland, leaving the Amstelveen team on the 3rd place of the Landelijk Minifestival at the Amstelveense Rugby Club grounds.
After ending up in the top tear in the first half of the season, the cluster AAC+ARC, also known as CL Groot Mokum is in the second place on the 2e klasse Dames (2023-2024). By winning last Sunday 24th March, their game against CL Delfte Dames 50-5, our ARC ladies cluster is officially promoting!

The legendary Speedboat team is going to Ameland with at least 2 teams to play the Ameland Beach tournament on the 7-9 June 2024.
This year’s edition, the speedboat sets its course through the jungle to a lost island named AMELAND. Because no one ever walked the jungle alone we will be accompanied by the first-ever TSB woman crewmembers. In case you consider yourself worthy of such an adventure.

Deze week ontving ARC-speler Cas Brouwer een bronzen medaille en certificaat van de Koninklijke Maatschappij tot Redding van Drenkelingen (KNRD) uit handen van de burgemeester van Amstelveen. Afgelopen Mei redde Cas samen met een klasgenoot een jongen uit het water die dreigde te verdrinken in het Amsterdamse Bos. Een held op en buiten het veld! We zijn trots op je Cas!

We starten het jaar met een bijzonder rugby weekend!
Na de jeugdwedstrijden van de Benjamins en de Cubs, zullen de onderlinge wedstrijden tussen de Lowlander M en ARC2+3 en de Lowlander W tegen de ARC Dames plaatsvinden in het kader van de Paddy Cup.
De Paddy Cup is een herdenkingswedstrijd voor ons oud-lid Patrick Bart, die ons enkele jaren terug ontvallen is. Hij was een gewaardeerde speler en supporter van zowel ARC3 en de Lowlanders, en deze wedstrijden gedenken hem en waar hij voor stond: liefde voor de sport, tolerantie en enthousiasme.
Op zondag zal het eerste herenteam het opnemen tegen het eerste herenteam van AAC, in de enige échte derby in Amstelveen en omstreken die er toe doet. Deze wedstrijd kan, nu al, wel eens bepalend zijn voor het kampioenschap in de eerste klasse.
Twee aan elkaar gewaagde traditionele aartsrivalen tegenover elkaar, maar met sterke banden tussen onze verenigingen, zowel geografisch, historisch en met clusterende jeugd en dames-teams. Komt dat zien!
LET OP! In verband met de internationale wedstrijd later op de dag is de kick off om 11:00 ’s ochtends!!!
Voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd zal een moment van stilte in acht worden genomen, in verband met het recente overlijden van Johan Ferwerda. Gewaardeerd rugby persoonlijkheid binnen Nederland en lid van AAC. Wij wensen alle naasten veel sterkte in deze moeilijke tijd.

We start the year with a special rugby filled weekend!
After the youth matches of the Benjamins and the Cubs, the mutual matches between the Lowlander M and ARC2+3 and the Lowlander W against the ARC Ladies will take place in the context of the Paddy Cup.
The Paddy Cup is a memorial game for our former member Patrick Bart, who passed away a few years ago. He was a valued player and supporter of both ARC3 and the Lowlanders, and these matches commemorate him and what he stood for: love for the sport, tolerance and enthusiasm.
On Sunday, the first men's team will take on the AAC first men's team in the one and only derby that really matters. This match may already be a key game for the championship in the first division!
Two evenly matched traditional arch-rivals opposite to each other, but with strong ties between our clubs, geographically, historically, and with clustering youth and women's teams. Be there or be square!
ATTENTION! Due to the international competition later in the day, the game starts at 11:00 am!!!
Before the match, a moment of silence will be observed in commemoration of the recently passed away Johan Ferwerda. He was a highly esteemed rugby personality in the Netherlands and member of AAC. We wish all close to him strength in these rough times.

In de eerste weken van het nieuwe jaar is het doorgaans behoorlijk koud op het rugbyveld en worden trainingen ook weleens afgeblazen omdat er teveel regen is gevallen. Nu hebben onze Turven, Benjamins en Mini’s (TBM) natuurlijk nergens last van, maar sommige trainers zijn wel van suiker, dus willen we graag in het zand van The Beach in Aalsmeer trainen.
De huur van The Beach voor training moeten we echter wel opbrengen en daarvoor gaan de TBM’s graag de uitdaging met jullie aan... De Pannenkoeken Challenge.
Op woensdag 13 december aanstaande gaan alle TMB’s zo veel mogelijk pannenkoeken eten en dagen ze iedereen (ouders, opa’s & oma’s, ooms & tantes, buren en omstanders) uit om geld in te zeKen op “hoeveel ze op kunnen”.
Elke TBM-er kan dus worden gesponsord... U kunt gokken hoe weinig
Eet Turf Borre er bijvoorbeeld 5 en sponsor ik Borre voor 1 euro per pannenkoek, dan moet ik dus 5 euro betalen... eet dat ventje er echter 8 dan wordt het 8 euro. Het kan natuurlijk ook zijn dat Borre
er niet meer dan 3 op kan, dan betaal ik maar 3 euro.
In de afgelopen jaren hebben eerdere TBM’s al bewezen dat het schrokoppen kunnen zijn, maar misschien is de huidige generaQe wat minder gulzig en niet in de aanloop naar 13 december op water en brood gezet, zoals we vermoeden dat vorige ouders van de TBM hebben gedaan.
Op de avond zelf zullen de pannenkoeken geteld worden en wordt de finale score per TBM-er bekend gemaakt. Dan weet elke sponsor ook wat zij/hij kan bijdragen.
Durf je de gok niet aan omdat Rover wel klein lijkt, maar plotseling er toch 12 opslokt, dan kun je ook een vast bedrag sponsoren.
Tot slot hebben we natuurlijk hulp nodig bij deze
avond, zoals tafeldekkers, ranja-schenkers,
pannenkoekenbakkers, stroopverdelers, suikerstrooiers en pannenkoek-rollers. Graag je even bekend maken bij je teammanager.
Ben je een echte Pannenkoeken bakker, dan graag de pannenkoeken van tevoren bakken en dan op de avond zelf aanleveren, want we hebben maar beperkte bakcapaciteit op de club.
De Trainers
In the first weeks of the new-year it is usually quite cold on the rugby field and training sessions are someQmes canceled because too much rain has fallen. Now our Turven, Benjamins and Minis (TBM) are of course not bothered by anything, but some trainers are made of sugar, so we would like to train in the sand of The Beach in Aalsmeer.
However, we do have to pay for the rent of The Beach for training and the TBMs are happy to take on a challenge with you... The Pancake Challenge.
On Wednesday, December 13, all TMBs will eat as many pancakes as possible and challenge everyone (parents, grandfathers & grandmothers, uncles & aunts, neighbors and bystanders) to bet money on “how much they can eat”.
So every TBM-er can be sponsored... You can guess how liKle they will eat
For example, if Turf Borre eats 5 and I sponsor Borre for 1 euro per pancake, because I expect him to eat 3, then I have to pay 5 euros... but if that guy eats 8, it will be 8 euros. It is of course also possible that Borre cannot hold more than 3, in which case I only pay 3 euros.
In recent years, previous TBMs have already proven that they can be scrappers, but perhaps the current generaQon is less greedy and is not put on bread and water in the run-up to December 13, as we suspect previous parents of the TBM did.
On the evening itself, the pancakes will be counted and the final score for each TBM member will be announced. Then each sponsor also knows what he/she can contribute.
If you don't dare take the gamble because Rover seems small, but suddenly swallows up 12, you can also sponsor a fixed amount.
Finally, we obviously need help with this evening,
such as table seKers, orange juice pourers,
pancake bakers, syrup distributors, sugar shakers and pancake rollers. Please introduce yourself to your team manager.
If you are a real pancake baker, please bake the pancakes in advance and then deliver them on the evening itself, because we only have limited baking capacity at the club.

AmstelveenSport heeft bekendgemaakt welke Amstelveense sportclubs genomineerd zijn voor de titel Vereniging van het Jaar 2023. Dat zijn Stichting Rolstoeldansen Amstelveen, de Amstelveense Rugby Club en Roeivereniging Okeanos. Op vrijdag 9 februari 2024 wordt tijdens het Amstelveen Sportgala bekendgemaakt wie de titel wint en naast de wisselbeker een cheque ter waarde van van 2.500 euro in ontvangst mag nemen.

The boys from ARC have once again showed their Mo-power to raise funds and awareness for men’s (mental) health
During Movember, the boys did not only look fabulous/a bit silly with their stach on their face

The ARC Introduction Course wrapped up last Friday, November 3rd, 2023, marking the end of six weeks filled with intense rugby learning, tackling, and shared meals.
We're thrilled to share that over 38 participants who completed the survey have given the course an outstanding rating of 4.4 out of 5!
To celebrate the development of these talented individuals and to welcome prospective club members, ARC and the ARC Amsterdam Lowlanders have organized exciting team-building activities at our clubhouse in Amstelveen.
During these games, the newbies have proven themselves true team players. Under their team name the Dragons, they defeated the oldies in a series of challenging tasks and though games.

Graag willen we je uitnodigen voor het eerste nationale sportverenigingsdebat op 9 november in Amsterdam. Uiteraard mag je een collega-bestuurder, partner of vrijwilliger meenemen. Het is belangrijk dat uit heel Nederland bestuurders komen om nieuwe Tweede Kamerleden met de sport portefeuille het belang van spotverenigingen te laten ervaren! Na het debat is er gelegenheid om met kandidaat Tweede Kamerleden persoonlijk in gesprek te gaan.

Verdrietig zijn wij na het vernemen van het trieste nieuws van het overlijden op 10 oktober j.l. van onze oud-clublid Ton Immel op 76-jarige leeftijd. Tussen 1970 en 1981 speelde Ton ruim een decennium voor NFC, altijd een vaste waarde in het eerste team. Medespelers herinneren hem als een brok beton, in z’n spel vol inzet, dominant in de line-out en een superharde tackler die zelden de wedstrijd uitspeelde zonder een blauw oog op te lopen. Maar hij was ook buitengewoon sportief. Op Ton kon je rekenen als je onderin een ruck lag; hij was er altijd in support, de beschermer, de rust zelve.
Achter de schermen was Ton een deskundige penningmeester van onze toen 10-jaar oude vereniging. Naast zijn verdienstelijk optreden op en naast het veld behaalde hij zijn Trainers A diploma, mede waardoor hij als pack leader een uitgekiende voortrekkersrol op zich kon nemen. Tevens vertegenwoordigde hij jarenlang NFC in het District Noordwest-team. Voor een stevige voorwaartse was hij ook een lenige 7s-speler, onderdeel van het NFC-team dat eind seizoen 1973-74 de Heineken Boot won. Dit was de eerste keer in het toen drie jaar bestaan van de tegenwoordige Amsterdam Sevens, dat een Nederlandse ploeg de Boot naar huis nam.
Behalve een capabele 2e rijer beschikte Ton over een feilloze schoptechniek. Vanaf grote afstand van de palen, de bal vooroverleunend, deed z’n rechterteenspieren de rest. Memorabel zijn diens twee penalty’s van de middenlijn tegen Ascrum op 17 november 1975, waardoor de overwinning op Ascrum (17-8) veilig werd gesteld en een plek in de Top-3 van de Ereklasse in zicht kwam. In mei 1976 won Ton, niet geheel verrassend, de allereerste editie van de Neil Mayne Kicking Trofee tijdens onze seizoensafsluiting. Op 7 april 1979 werd Ton opgenomen in de Nederlandse Selectie tegen de Exiles op onze eigen NFC-veld, waarin verschillende Amstelveners in beide teams meededen. Ton speelde en scoorde ook in september 1980 voor Nederland B in het Sportpark voor honderden toeschouwers in de topwedstrijd tegen de bezoekende routiniers van het roemruchte Londense club Rossyln Park; Nederland-B won nipt.
Wellicht het meest opvallend van Ton was dat hij gewoon, te allen tijde, zichzelf bleef. Een aardige, beheerste en warme persoonlijkheid, vol humor, gelijkmatig en uitermate gezellig om na de wedstrijd een glaasje mee te drinken. Je kon alleen maar respect hebben voor een man die 10 jaar lang, 3x per week vanuit zijn woonplaats Lelystad naar Amstelveen op en neer reisde om te trainen en spelen. Eenieder begreep ’t toen Ton in april 1981 besloot om dichterbij huis te gaan spelen.
Feestelijk en vorstelijk was Ton; een bijzondere man heeft ons verlaten. Onze gedachten en medeleven gaan uit naar Astrid, Brian en Susan, en andere familieleden en vrienden van Ton. We zullen hem missen.

Kom met mij mee, terug in de tijd, 31 jaar geleden. De derde plaats in de eredivisie hadden we net veroverd. Dit mede door drie duels in seizoen 1991-1992 tegen aartsrivaal AAC, wedstrijden die alledrie onbeslist eindigden; 10-10, weer 10-10 en dan 9-9). Next step; op naar de Nationale Bekerfinale, tegen ... AAC.
Weet je 't nog, Bevrijdingsdag. Een droge zomerse avond, 5 mei 1992. Spanning alom. Met als hogeschool coaching een geniale zet van Colin Jackson - een 5-mans ARC-scrum juist tegen de vooraf gevreesde pack van AAC. Deze tactiek was gericht op snelle balwinst voor onze behendige backs, van waaruit Murray Erikson en Gert Jan Combee beiden scoorden. En dan ... de dropgoal van Cris Gale, in mijn beleving een grote gok, best ver, maar gezien wedstrijdverloop en klok een berekende optie. De verdediging was zo scherp aan beide kanten dat het wel zoiets moest gaan worden, omdat AAC als de dood was om in die laatste fase, met een voorsprong van twee punten, een penalty weg te geven. Met een dropkick kun je de held worden, maar ook de schlemiel ... en dit pakte gelukkig goed uit.

ARC Ladies "CL Groot Mokkum D1" Shine Bright The day's action commenced with an impressive performance by the ARC Ladies "CL Groot Mokkum D1," who demonstrated their dominance on the field. They secured a convincing victory against CL Obelix/Scrumboks D1 with a remarkable score of 63-12, setting the stage for an electrifying day of rugby.
Amstelveense RC 3 Falls to USRS Though Amstelveense RC 3 faced a tough challenge from USRS, their determination was evident throughout the match. However, USRS ultimately emerged victorious with a commanding score of 53-5.
ARC2 Triumphs Over RFC Haarlem 3 ARC2 continued the winning streak for the club, defeating RFC Haarlem 3 in a closely contested match. The final score reflected their hard-fought victory and unwavering team spirit.
ARC1 Engages in a Thrilling Encounter The highlight of the day came in the form of a nail-biting clash between ARC1 and Groningen RC 1. Rugby World Cup Matches Add to the Excitement To top off the day, rugby enthusiasts had the opportunity to enjoy two Rugby World Cup matches. It was a treat for fans to witness international rugby excellence alongside the local club action.

Als jullie nieuwe president vind ik het geweldig om samen met jullie allemaal een nieuw rugbyseizoen te starten. Maar laten we, voordat we in de toekomst duiken, de prestaties van onze club teams van het afgelopen seizoen even vieren.
In de eerste plaats hebben onze jeugdteams uitstekend gepresteerd. Zij vormen werkelijk de ruggengraat van het succes van onze club en hun harde werk is niet on opgemerkt gebleven.
Onze TBM's leggen de lat hoog door kampioen te worden op het North Sea Beach Tournament en bewijzen daarmee hun talent en vastberadenheid op een regionaal podium. Goed gedaan, TBM's! Jullie hebben ons trots gemaakt!
Onze Cubs 1 maakten indruk op iedereen door als 6e te eindigen in hun Cup Pool, wat hun karakter demonstreerde ondanks de zware concurrentie. Op dezelfde manier gingen onze Cubs 2 een uitdaging niet uit de weg en eindigden als 4e in hun Shield Pool, wat zeker bewijst dat ze een stijgende kracht zijn binnen onze club.
Onze Junioren 1 waren echt uitzonderlijk, en eindigden als 2e in hun Plate Pool, en onze Junioren 2 leverden een sterke prestatie en eindigden als 3e in hun Shield Pool. Deze prestaties tonen nog een keer het talent en het harde werk aan dat onze jonge spelers op het veld brengen.
Onze Colts, de toekomstige sterren van onze club, hebben hun potentieel gedemonstreerd door als 1ste te eindigen in hun Bowl Pool. Deze jonge mensen zijn degenen om op te letten de komende seizoenen!!
Maar laten we onze seniorenteams niet vergeten; ook zij hebben het afgelopen seizoen opmerkelijke bepaling en vaardigheid getoond. Hun prestaties blijven ons trots maken en inspireren ons allemaal, jong en oud.
Ons ARC1-team demonstreerde hun talent door op een indrukwekkende 2e plaats te eindigen in de Eerste Klasse Trophy Pool. Deze prestatie is alleen mogelijk geweest dankzij hun harde werk, teamwerk en bepaling. Gefeliciteerd, ARC1!
Ons ARC3-team verdient ook een daverend applaus voor hun opmerkelijke reis. Ze eindigden als 2e op de Vierde Klasse Cup Noord-West en verzekerden zich van promotie naar de 3e klasse, waardoor de terugkeer van ons tweede team mogelijk werd gemaakt, en hun veerkracht en vastberadenheid werd getoond. Goed gedaan, ARC3, en welkom terug ARC2!
Ons damesteam was een sterke kracht om rekening mee te houden en eindigde als 6e in de zeer competitieve bekercompetitie in de Tweede Klasse. Ze hebben ons laten zien dat ze een team zijn van sterke spelers die de lat voor damesrugby steeds hoger blijven leggen.
Laten we het nu over de Lowlanders hebben. Het team van ons LL Ws behaalde een buitengewone overwinning door de eerste Union Cup te winnen. Hun harde werk, discipline en teamwerk hebben op de best mogelijke manier hun vruchten afgeworpen. Felicitaties aan hen!
En last but zeker not least waren onze Lowlanders M’s de kampioenen van de Union Cup Mercian Bowl. Dit is een bewijs van hun toewijding aan de sport en hun vermogen om uit te blinken op het grote podium.
Dan, met de steun van onze uitzonderlijke coaching- en management teams, onze vrijwilligers en onze gepassioneerde supporters, heb ik er alle vertrouwen in dat we dit seizoen nieuwe hoogten zullen bereiken. Laten we dan de ware geest van ons Amstelveense rugby laten zien!

Dear members of the ARC family,
As your new President, I am thrilled to start a new rugby season with all of you. But before we delve into the future, let's celebrate the achievements of our club teams from last season.
First of all, our youth teams performed excellently. They truly are the backbone of our club's success and their hard work has not gone unnoticed.
Our TBMs set the bar high by becoming champions at the North Sea Beach Tournament, proving their talent and determination on a regional stage. Well done, TBMs! You have made us proud!
Our Cubs 1 impressed everyone by finishing 6th in their Cup Pool, demonstrating their character despite tough competition. Similarly, our Cubs 2 did not shy away from a challenge and finished 4th in their Shield Pool, which certainly proves that they are a rising force within our club.
Our Juniors 1 were truly exceptional, finishing 2nd in their Plate Pool, and our Juniors 2 put in a strong performance, finishing 3rd in their Shield Pool. These performances once again demonstrate the talent and hard work that our young players bring to the field.
Our Colts, the future stars of our club, demonstrated their potential by finishing 1st in their Bowl Pool. These young people are the ones to watch out for in the coming seasons!!
But let's not forget our senior teams; they too showed remarkable determination and skill last season. Their achievements continue to make us proud and inspire us all, young and old.
Our ARC1 team demonstrated their talent by finishing an impressive 2nd place in the First Division Trophy Pool. This achievement was only possible because of their hard work, teamwork and determination. Congratulations, ARC1!
Our ARC3 team also deserves a round of applause for their remarkable journey. They finished 2nd at the Fourth Division Cup North West and secured promotion to the 3rd Division, enabling the return of our second team, and showing their resilience and determination. Well done, ARC3, and welcome back ARC2!
Our women's team were a force to be reckoned with, finishing 6th in the highly competitive Second Division cup competition. They have shown us that they are a team of strong players who continue to raise the bar for women's rugby.
Now let's talk about the Lowlanders. Our LL Ws team achieved an extraordinary victory by winning the first Union Cup. Their hard work, discipline and teamwork paid off in the best possible way. Congratulations to them!
And last but certainly not least, our LL M's were the champions of the Union Cup Mercian Bowl. This is a testament to their dedication to the sport and their ability to excel on the big stage.
Then, with the support of our exceptional coaching and management teams, our volunteers and our passionate supporters, I am confident we will reach new heights this season. Let's show the true spirit of our Amstelveen rugby!

Carlos Fitzsimons - President ARC 2023
Last Friday, on September 15th, the ARC Clubhouse in Amstelveen was alive with the spirit of celebration as the club marked the beginning of a historic 60th season with its Opening Ceremony. Rugby enthusiasts and club members came together to celebrate the triumphs of a healthy club with a numerous youth, a Dames side, a Heren side which plays in the 1st division of the Netherlands, and an even greater many social side teams, including the M and W inclusive ARC Amsterdam Lowlanders. The later team celebrated its 20 years of existence last Thursday.
The day started with a training for the youth, where the 1st team male side gave a clinic for skills to all youth in 6 different stations. It finished with a touch rugby match where parents, tutors, and spectators looked from the side lines with excitement.
Afterwards, Nick Gale played the piano for the singers of our beloved club. The ARC anthems, performed by seasoned club members, resonated through the air, bringing a wave of nostalgia, as the afternoon slowly faded away. Kids and adults listened carefully to the funny lyrics as well as the chords of the piano, while enjoying the meatball soup made by our Chef, Dick van Bruksvoort.
As President Carlos Fitzsimons took the stage outside, so people could listen while getting the last sun rays. The newly voted leader gave a speech that set the tone for the exciting journey ahead. He emphasized the celebration of the 60 years of the club, and inspired us to pursue an even greater season than the one before. His words were accompanied by fervent applause as they looked forward to the challenges and victories that the new season would bring (read full speech here).
The event was not just about speeches and formalities; it was also a night of music with a karaoke equipment that the Secretary Walter Ekkelkamp coordinated; as well as the Rugby World Cup 2023 matches being broadcasted. Of course, the tune of Wanderwal (by Oasis), brought once again a physical feeling of 'unitedness', allowing the fabrics that separated us, to become invisible for a moment.
While the effort from the Events committee and the hands of the rest of the club members made this a historic celebration, it was the attendees who truly made the event special. The presence of Rugby fans, club members, and friends added to the sense of diverse community that defines Amstelveense Rugby Club.
