The Amstelveen market has been a household name in Amstelveen for 65 years and is more than just a place where vegetables, fruit, cheese, and textiles are sold. For many residents, the market is an important place to meet others, in which market vendors naturally play a key role. On Friday, October 23, 1Amstelveen, in collaboration with the market advertising committee and with support from the Stadsfonds, organized an event to celebrate the strength of the Amstelveen market. Despite the stormy weather, it was a celebration on the Stadsplein, which is extensively reported on in the 80th episode of 1Amstelveen aan Tafel.
Specifically for this event and the broadcast, a stage was built in the middle of the market where visitors could enjoy the music of DJ Appelmoes. Presenter Mathijs Groenewoud spoke with, among others, the responsible Alderman Paul Slettenhaar, market master Louise Wesselius, and market vendors, some of whose stalls have been run by different generations. There was a great deal of interest in the prizes that could be won at the Wheel of Fortune. These beautiful and tasty prizes were provided by the various market vendors. Participe provided the festive cake to accompany the coffee. Presenter Astrid de Craen visited a number of stalls to gather stories.
The Amstelveen market originally started on Oude Karsselaan, before moving to Plein 1960. This location is now better known as the Stadshart. And due to the renovation of this Stadshart, the market will temporarily move to Rembrandtweg in early 2027. Regardless of all the moves, the weekly market remains a household name in Amstelveen, which is clearly visible in the broadcast.
