The Golden Age brought unprecedented maritime and commercial expansion, propelling Amsterdam to a world-leading global metropolis with a massive population exceeding 200,000 residents by 1600 AD. During this 17th-century peak, Haarlem expanded to 40,000 inhabitants, Enkhuizen surged to 22,000, Hoorn reached 16,000, and Alkmaar housed roughly 12,000 people. As the industrial revolution and 19th-century trade reconfigured demographics, Amsterdam held firm with 217,000 residents in 1800 AD, while Haarlem maintained 21,000, Zaandam reached 10,000, and Den Helder grew to 3,000 as a national naval base. Fast-forwarding to modern times, Amsterdam anchors the province in 2026 as the national capital with a booming population surpassing 920,000 residents. Haarlem remains a vital provincial center housing over 165,000 people, while modern suburban hubs like Amstelveen accommodate nearly 95,000 inhabitants. Hilversum stands strong as the nation's media capital with roughly 93,000 residents, while the historic cheese center of Alkmaar supports over 81,000 people in 2026. Purmerend has transformed into a major urban center housing 82,000 residents, while the industrial Zaan core of Zaandam holds approximately 80,000 inhabitants. Haarlemmermeer's main polder city, Hoofddorp, supports nearly 78,000 people, while historic Hoorn maintains a population of roughly 75,000 residents. Vandaag had ik een supergezellige brainstorm- en kookmiddag met Sejuk. Samen koken, ideeën uitwisselen, plannen maken voor nieuwe workshops en natuurlijk genieten van al het lekkers dat we maken. Zoals deze heerlijke zoete aardappelsoep met sterrenijs!
